The Onebag Shrine

A dedication to freedom, simplicity, and adaptability.

What is onebag?

Onebag is the idea of traveling with a single bag. A simple premise that quickly fractals off into a lot of depth.

The ideal of onebag is, to me, a backpack that is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you on a plane, but big enough to fit everything you reasonably need for a trip. I've been "onebagging" for a number of years and find that the flexibility and fluidity it affords me, and the questions it asks of me, makes for much better travel — both in transit and while at the destination.

This is a page for musing on that idea and setting out my pitch for why you should consider onebag for your next trip.

The Manifesto

  1. Pack Lighter, Live Bigger
The fewer items you carry, the less you need to worry about and the more space you create for experiences and spontaneity. A literal and metaphorical burden lifted—no baggage claims, no heavy loads, just freedom to move.
  2. Thoughtful Gear for Fluid Journeys
Every item serves a purpose, chosen with care for function and (if it matters to you like it does to me) style. Smart gear and intentional packing mean less to carry and more to gain, letting you travel further with less.
  3. Time, Money, and Energy for What Matters
No checked bags, no fees, no wasted time waiting. Packing light lets you save your resources—whether it’s for a great meal, an extra day, or the next adventure.
  4. Adaptability and Refinement
Onebagging prepares you for the unexpected. Each trip is a chance to refine your approach, proving the journey is as much about learning as it is about the destination.
  5. One Bag, Infinite Possibilities
The single bag isn’t a limit—it’s an opportunity. Within its confines lies the freedom to explore, adapt, and embrace adventures as vast as your imagination.
